Extra tissue
« on: July 18, 2007, 03:28:26 AM »
Hello everyone.

Hope you all a well as can be.  I went to the Dr. yesterday with and cough and had to have an X-Ray.  Of course my X-Ray was abnormal and the Dr. (not my normal dr.) freaked.  :wah  After making her aware of my chest mass she calmed down and prescribed antibiotics and let me go, she did recommend I see a pulmonary specialist. Ok, here's the question I have "What is the technical or medical term for the chest mass?"  It is extra tissue produced by my body to create red-blood cells.  I have these masses in my chest and along my back.  I can't tell they are there, so I'm not worried about them.  I was explaining this to a co-worker and realized I have no idea what it is called.  ???

Hey Bobby,

It's called an extramedullary haematopoiesis. These can grow as masses, usually found in the abdomen and can sometimes become a problem if they expand and put pressure on the spine or an organ. Often they cause no problem. This can also take place at the cellular level and will show the same result as lymphoma in cancer scans, so thal patients need to advise their doctors of this if a scan ever shows lymphoma.

All we are saying is give thals a chance.
