Hepatitis C and interferon
« on: November 03, 2006, 02:55:49 PM »
Dear friends

I want to share with you some information i was discussing with one of my relative doctors concerning interferon any why some patients react positivly to it and others don't.

She said that Virus C has seven versions ( 7 kinds ) and interferon is a drug that cures only one version of this virus .  Actually this version is the one that is much spread in the United States and that is why researchers and scientists made their research on this version in particular and came up with this interferon. This makes sense because it seems that scientists work first on what affect their people and country. So unless you have the same version of this Virus C , you will not be cured.
For example, the most popular version of Hepatitis C here in Egypt is version 4 and that is why most of the people who take interferon react negativly to it.

Unfortunatly, some doctors are not honest enough and use this drug with all versions depending that it ''might'' work and they don't consider how expensive it is for poor people at least in Egypt.

That what we were discussing and i wanted to share with you. May be these words could be of any help

Thanks

Manal

Hi Shikha

Congratulations for your daughter.  I guess that she had the version that interferon was made for .  Here in Egypt some people get cured from interferon too . Thats all depend as i told you on which version you have. In one country , you may have all the versions, but there is always one of them that is more popular than the others

Take care

Manal

Hello!

Some information on Hepatitis C can be found here:
http://www.hepcvic.org.au/youandhepc/youandhepc.html

Under the heading "Treatment" is information about the different genotypes of Hepatitis C and their response to treatment.

Hope that is of help.
Cheers,
