Can it be possible?
« on: September 26, 2012, 12:47:23 PM »
Hi all,

I just came across a thought. May sound stupid but wanted to share.

Before transfusing blood, is it not possible to make the blood iron free or reduce the iron, instead of removing iron after it enters the body ?

Has any research been done in this area?

He He
I got this question before some years and asked to Andy sometime before on FB. But Unfortunately it is not possible, because when iron is removed from red cell, then red cell get died.
Andy's Ans
"If iron was removed from blood, there would be no hemoglobin left in the blood."
Start listening your body, it always gives signs

Yes, it is indeed what Dharmesh says.

For example, if you are Thal minor, doctors advice you to take iron pills to increase your Hb levels. Ultimately iron is the only thing which produces hemoglobin.
