Thalassemia Intermedia and Future Pregnancy
« on: March 12, 2008, 05:01:58 PM »
Hello Everyone,

I am a new member to this forum. I must say its such a wonderful site to share and learn about thalassemia which has affected lives of all of us here....

I am 28 years old and recently diagnosed that I have Thalassemia Intermedia. I know my father has Thalassemia trait. Till now I lead a normal life with just mild anemia and Hb around 9.

My husband also went for a blood test to see if he has any trait. Fortunately his results came out negative and his hb was 14(well in normal range).

Now we want to start our family. Pls help me what should I do now. What are chances that our baby will be normal or carrier or intermedia like me. Does Thalassemia causes any complications during pregnancy? Do I need extra doses of Folic acid?

Thanks you all in advance.

Hi Manu,
You have already spent around one third of your life without even knowing the problem. Then, why do you worry. You will never have any problem.
Your children will be Minor only as your husband is perfectly ok.
