Sis ,
i m still trying to cope with my S.Fe  levels , i hope that it come down soon .. i m not gona give up i will fight like sajid did .. i m strugling to maintain my hg and then i will start agressive chelation again .. i found the reason of rising ferritin ,
1) when i gave blood sample i was feeling a little fever and i heard that fever or other infection could raise S.F ..
2) i was sufering to stomach pain and i gave sample just after the injections for stomach ( Zantac, gravinate and No'spa ).
3) i haad never gave time more than 3-7 hours , between the chelation and blood sample for S.F test , but this time i stopped desferal 4 days  and ferriprox 3 days before giving blood sample for the S.F test .... it coudl be main reason . and i thought my this report is more accurate than previous reports bcoze of stopping chelators a few days before S.F test ...

i m still hopeful to get back on track .. n i hope that i will be on track again , very soon ....
keep praying and encouraging me ....

Today , i will go to my doc to discuss about my stomach ... i will also discuss about to start more suplements ... yesterday i was out to home for Tx , here is something i m worried about that is i had my Last Tx ( Tx before this Tx ) just 6 days before at that time my pre-Tx Hb was 8.2  , but this time (yesterday ) just after 6 days  and my Hb my pre-Tx Hb was 6.5 .. i didn't understand the reason of droping my Hb that much in just 6 days .. i will try to find out reason  ...

Best Regards

Umair,

it is possible that your low Hb and high ferritin are both related to your recent illness. Now that you're feeling better, make sure you stick to your transfusion and chelation routines. You really won't know where your readings are until you've been healthy for a bit. Ferritin readings can jump all over the place when you're ill, so relax and take care of your routines.

Hi Andy ,
i planed to have Tx on this saturday but then i post poned Tx this wednesday ( it is after 6 days of my last Tx ) to check that , is it happening coniously or it was an error in my Hg report ... i hope it will b declared as an error in the report , about ferritin that could be definatly bcoze of the illness and the change i made this time ... soo lets see wat happened on my next Tx .. uptill then i will comply on chelation ....

take care

Hello,

Its not recommended to have any form of chelation therapy while you have a fever.. Having a cough is ok to chelate, but not FEVER.... The flu is ok too...

Hope this helps

Hi Kim,

I don't know the technical reason why desferal should be stopped during fever, but with L1 its because of possible neutropenia, low white cells,i am not sure if that's the cause with desferal.

Hb does go down fast in fever, due to the high rate of hemolysis (breaking of red cells)and infection in the blood.

Hope it helps  :hugfriend.

Hi Kinny ,
here is the answer , i found it on Ayesha & Salman's website ,

Should we take Deferal even when we have an illness?
We think its better to stop using Desferal untill you know the cause of your illness. This is because there is a family of germs, called Yersinia, that can use Desferal to grow on. These germs can cause an instestinal infection. Therefore, if you have a fever, or a tummy-ache, or diarrhoea, it is best to stop your Desferal, because if the fever is due to a Yersinia infection, the Desferal could make the infection worse. Once you know the illness is not due to Yersinia, you should start taking the Desferal again.

Hi Ayesha & Sharmin ,
i m back with full details , as i mentioned above taht my Hg was 10.2 , i m lucky that i got fresh blood , that were bleed just a day before my Tx ( on 25 Nov )  ... i left a blood sample for CBC, just before going for Tx .... i m hoepfull that Hg in CBC Test will differ to my thal center's result ...
my doc told me that your complexion is got much fair  :shy ... i replied that before doing chelation there was a "Green Revolution" on m face , that is dis-apearing now , thats why :grin ...  woops ... going out of topic ... sooo .....
