its a matter for gr8 attention. My friends in lahore pakistan have stopped taking asunra because it raised their ferritin to great extent. in the start my friend was saying to have risen Fe from 3000- 6000 (even higher than that in other friends) and he said me a theory i cudnt get, that asunra first takes out iron stored in organs into blood stream and then excretes it...and that dialogue became a great laughter for all of us later on when that iron taken onto blood stream never excreted though hehehe and our hematologist has also advised to stop asunra  . And it has led to other negative opinions that the product specifically produced and sold with such a lowcost as compared to its other versions in Europe,  is fake and involves corruption. Asunra has lost its credibility in Pakistan.

What your friend said is correct. Exjade/Asunra does elevate ferritin in initial stages. Prolong use of exjade will bring the ferritin levels down.

Andy,

Splitting of the exjade dose is helping a lot of patients in Canada. Little Miss A. is eating again and is quite happy with her exjade schedule. The last ferritin came as 300 for Little Miss A, and she have stopped exjade for three months.

Just an update with Little Miss A. The Bone Mass Density (BMD) test is tomorrow and ferriscan is scheduled for third week of May. The hospital has T2* now and is doing the test on few patients.

Also, Hospital for sick children has arranged a information seminar for the transfused dependent patients on May 8, 2010. I am planning to attend and will update the forum if there is any new information.

Thanks,
Regards.

The common dose of ferriprox is 75mg per kilo. So according to your weight, it should be 8.5 tablets per day.

In some cases with high iron overload, it can be taken up to 100mg per kilo, which in your case will be around 11.5 tablets daily.

My opinion, is to stick to the common dose, may be your body will tolerate it in a better way

good luck

Rehman,

Manal is right. You are taking the high ferriprox dosage probably due to your iron overload.
Do you take any desferal?

rehman

How about sticking to the low dose of ferriprox and trying to administer desferal via IV to help decrease ferritin rapidly

Rehma,
i think that is nothing related with Ferriprox .. as you me on phone that you just have started swimming and you're doing 8 laps in 2 hours and i told you that is too much to begin with .. as i told you on phone (as we had a talk just after your this one post ) that to start with 2-4 laps then rest for half an hour and then do 2 more laps and then go off to swimming and slightly increase No# of laps day-by-day ... i think reason of feeling weakness is due to doing 8 laps in beggning ... so, start with less no# of laps and slightly increase the no# of lapse ... i remember once when i went to see a phsyio therapist he told me some exercises and instructed/said  me to do every step five times  in beggning but once you get used to it start increasing the no# of every step ... (for example if he told me to pull up hand 5 times for a few second, he told me to increase it to 5 times then after a few days 7 times then after a days 8 )...

i hope  answered the question and it will b helpful for you ..... i think , IF Ferriprox have any effect in your case that would  only joint tired/weakness/pain not muscles ( i mean to say i dont think ferriprox could have any effect on muscles ) .... i think that muscle pain is only due to doing  TOO much swimming/exercise in the beggining ....

Best Regards
