Thalassaemia positives
« on: July 02, 2008, 05:58:50 AM »
Narenda you started a great discussion on Did you know...
Lets see if we can continue the topic but with a different twist.
 :wink
We all live with Thalassaemia in some form or another and I'm sure that we have some positive memories or experiences because of it or maybe we are grateful to be Thalassaemic because it taught or gave us something to strive or live for.

I'll go first....

I'm thankful for being Thalassaemic because it has made me appreciate life by making me work for it.
It has also given me humility by being more understanding of others less fortunate than me. :(
Thalassaemia is a lifestyle not a burden.

Sometimes , God breaks our spirit to save our soul.
Sometimes , He breaks our heart to make us whole.
Sometimes , He sends us pain so we can be stronger.
Sometimes , He sends us failure so we can be humble.
Sometimes , He sends us illness so we can take better care of our selves.
Sometimes , He takes everything away from us so we can learn the value of everything we have.

I like the fact that I don't have to cut back on eating because its hard for me to gain weight.  I can have milkshakes with every meal. My co-workers wish they could.  :rotfl

Hi everyone,
I'm once again been through the tumbler and back on my feet till the next drama.

While I was in my nightmares I came across these few words that somehow triggers something inside and reached my soul ,I would like to share with the forum.

IT  stated>"Life is not the way it is supposed to be, It's the way it is ,the way we cope with it is what makes the difference,"

I hope these few words brings comfort to someone that is hurting today ,it did comfort me.
I'm always here  Have a nice day.
Kathy

Thanks Sajid,

Been listening to music and reading quotes to keep me calm :wink

Here a couple that I like....

You have to believe in yourself and you have to dig down deep
within the bottom of your soul,
feel that you can do the job that you've set out to do.

William C Devries

The way in which we see ourselves has everything to do with how the world sees us
and how can we see ourselves successfully acknowledged by that world.

Arlene Raven

There is nothing on Earth you can not have -
once you have mentally accepted the fact that you can have it. :biggrin

Benefits
Being a carrier of the disease may confer a degree of protection against malaria,
and is quite common among people from Italian or Greek origin,
and also in some African and Indian regions.
This is probably by making the red blood cells more susceptible to the less lethal
species Plasmodium vivax, simultaneously making the host RBC environment unsuitable
for the merozoites of the lethal strain Plasmodium falciparum.
This is believed to be a selective survival advantage for patients with the
various thalassemia traits. In that respect it resembles another genetic disorder,
sickle-cell disease.

Epidemiological evidence from Kenya suggests another reason:
protection against severe anemia may be the advantage.[11].

People diagnosed with heterozygous (carrier) Beta-Thalassemia
have some protection against coronary heart disease.[12]
Sometimes , God breaks our spirit to save our soul.
Sometimes , He breaks our heart to make us whole.
Sometimes , He sends us pain so we can be stronger.
Sometimes , He sends us failure so we can be humble.
Sometimes , He sends us illness so we can take better care of our selves.
Sometimes , He takes everything away from us so we can learn the value of everything we have.
