Facial feature in Thals
« on: April 28, 2006, 04:10:52 PM »
Hello,

I know Thals who were not treated well from the beginning have specific facial features due to bone expansion, can it happen even if they are treated well.

Thanks for the reply......
Regards.

If they are given enough blood (starting at an early age) so that their hgb is stabilized at a decent level, then it should not happen.  :)

If  the Hb is maintained between at least 8.5 to 12 all through the growing years of a Thal child, then facial features almost dissapears and then it is hard to tell apparently that the child has Thal .

Adequate transfusion will supress the bone marrow activity to a minimum .
