« on: August 31, 2008, 01:50:32 PM »
To all of my Muslim Friends,

to most of us, tomorrow is the first day of Ramadhan. I would like to wish you all good health and peace so that you all can complete this month easily.

I have heard that you can not use Desferal while fasting. Is it true? I hope not cause then i'll have to re schedule my routine..    :smileblue

Injectable drugs are allowed during fasting. Oral drugs are not allowed during fasting hours. However, Islamic rules do allow those with chronic diseases to refrain from fasting. Those who are diabetic or who are using thyroxine may find it impossible to fast and this is acceptable, and this can be made up in other ways, such as feeding the poor. For those who do fast and want to use desferal during Ramadan, taking it after dusk until dawn may eliminate any chance of the drug reacting any differently due to the fast. My main concern here would be with maintaining adequate hydration levels while fasting.

For a more in depth article on Drug intake during Ramadan see http://www.bmj.com/cgi/content/full/329/7469/778

Happy Ramadan to all Muslims.
Andy

All we are saying is give thals a chance.

The transcript of the fatwa follows.

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions. Injections invalidate fasting if they have any feeding effect, i.e. if they substitute a drink or a food. These are often intravenous injections. However, if injections are for treatment, they are lawful as they do not contradict the Shariah aim of fasting. Allah knows best.

Dear Andy,

I didn't expect to gat a reply from you   :biggrin but thanks. It sure did explain about fasting. This is actually a question from my friend. she was unsure about it so i thought i'd ask it here and see if there's a different answer.

Tor Canadian Family,
thanks for the fatwa. for me i am ok in using the desf while fasting. the only thing is, it's a little tricky to take vit c with it.

Thanks everyone for the Ramadan wishes.

Taking Desferal while fasting is O.K as it does not contain nutrients. As for the Vitamin C, you can take it easily if you have set the night routine for Desferal. For example I put on Desferal before sleeping and take Vit-c with it before hitting the sack. Then have Sehar with the Desferal on.

Hi Sah  !I am writing to you in order to coinvince  you not to stop desferal during fasting; there is really no problem since it is permitted; And in my opinion and it is vital to keep doing it !
And what is more  it is for our health!
Wish you wonderful Ramadan Mubarak and take care :)

Sometimes , God breaks our spirit to save our soul.
Sometimes , He breaks our heart to make us whole.
Sometimes , He sends us pain so we can be stronger.
Sometimes , He sends us failure so we can be humble.
Sometimes , He sends us illness so we can take better care of our selves.
Sometimes , He takes everything away from us so we can learn the value of everything we have.
