Thalassemia Cure

Today the national Tv channel 3 give this news :

An hospital in NY city and an Italian hospital in Sicily cured with success thalassemia
in primate and mice .......
They did with staminal cells manipulation.
they will start first human trial in January in NY and after in Sicily .....
Any one has news on this cure?

Isn't this the same thing as the stem cells? The question is the source of these stem cells. Bone marrow transplant that has been done since long ago is actually stem cells transplantation as it contains them. Similarly Cord blood contains the richer concentration of stem cells.

But if you are talking about artificial stem cells or other ones than the regular sources, then this might be the new break we need as the stem cells extracted from the donors have reacting anti bodies. The artificial ones would have none.
