Hi Shubhra,

Starting of iron chelation depends on different factors,usually doctors recommend starting chelation after your child turns 2,especially if you want to start chelation with Asunra or Exjade,,you'll have to wait till your child turns two,doctors recommend starting chelation after your child's ferritin reaches 1000,and this usually happens somewhere between 10 to 20 transfusions,i am saying this with some patients it reaches 1000 earlier then others,and for some its the other way round,because every patient's blood requirement is different.Our moderator Sharmin started chelation with her son when he was 18 months old,and it seems that starting chelation early helps with stopping iron to start building up in organs.
