Hello Jlyarta,

Increase in your ferritin level is an indication that iron is being extracted from your organs, the dose of ferriprox is 75 mg/kg,calculate it according to your body weight, and rest be assured you are not doing anything wrong, sometimes ferritin takes a bit long to come down.

Zaini.

Jlyarta,

I am happy Zaini agrees that it is a good sign. And yes, for your weight you should take the least dosage being 75X66/500=9.9 fe per day. What must have happened now is that excess iron is removed from your organs and circulate in your blood, that is why the ferritin rises so much.
Do not panic and of course contact your doctors for further instructions.

Lena.

jlayarta,

You should be using about 5000 mg daily of Ferriprox. You are only taking 3000 mg. That is not enough. Even if you are taking desferal also, you should be taking 5000 mg Ferriprox. Raise your dose and continue to take desferal. If your ferritin still does not drop you should consider being admitted to the hospital for IV desferal 24/7. This would make a big difference and give you a chance to get your iron load under control so that the chelators can do a better job.

thank you Zaini & Lena... i hope that's the cause..

Andy : Even i'm hoping what Zaini and Lena said was true.. I dont really sure that Ferritin level will go high after consuming that much of desferal and ferriprox.. what do you thing would be the cause of this? because i've never get to this level before.. not until i consumed ferriprox. and I ate like before.. nothing change that much in past 8 weeks.

Thank you.

It may be that there is a lot of free iron because you have been using desferal, but that is all more the reason to raise the Ferriprox to the correct dose. You need to remove the free iron. One other thing to remember is that ferritin results can vary a lot and are affected by things like infections. I would highly recommend aggressive combination chelation. 75 mg/kg Ferriprox daily and desferal up to 5 nights per week, with minimum 2 gm each time. You will see results quickly if you do this.

Good Luck jlayarta. It must be hard to take all those meds, but we are here to help you a bit.  :hugfriend

I  have increase my dosage of Exjade to 1500mg today and I hope it will get down a bit. Mine fe is stuck at 2400. Not so high as you, but we sit in the same boat. First it was getting higher, but now it is back at the "normal" level.
