Gene therapy in Europe

Hello Andy,

Yesterday Dr. Alan Cohen said the results from gene therapy experiments going on in Europe are out and "are not being discussed publicly".

What does this mean, is it a bad news? . Do you have any information about these experiments.

I don't want to guess. At the Singapore conference, the public results released were not very encouraging, as they said there was only a 6 month gap before transfusions were needed again. However, what I was told privately was different and far more positive. I think we'll have to wait for official reports.

Since Dr Sadelain is the true pioneer and in my opinion, has the best grasp of the process, I truly believe we will have to wait until his trials start this spring to see how much we can expect from gene therapy.

I wish and hope that this year will bring some good news in this research ... looking for a affordable and safe cure for thal this year .. hope is still young ..

A French thalpatient underwent a genetherapy in the beginning of 2008. That's all I read in an article. I do not know how he is doing.
