Poirot,
I hope I don't get disappointed that is because I dont have any expectation,

Although I would be gratefull if he could improve there educations system, teach the younger generations to have respect and the value of human-beings regardless of their creed, religion or age.

It would be a good start then maybe other nations wont be so angry towards the American.

Obama is off to a good start by banning torture, ordering the closing of the Gitmo camp and ordering a plan for the draw down of troops in Iraq. Torture! It's unbelievable that we have slipped so low that we actually had to ban torture in the US. Excuse me for thinking that it had been banned long ago. I am happy to see Obama officially force this issue. It will take a lot to rebuild the true spirit of America and our reputation in the world, but Obama has made a major shift in direction in his first few days and this American likes the idea that if the US is going to claim the high road, that they better actually stay on it.

All we are saying is give thals a chance.

Hi
I truly admires the way he thinks so far.  I hope that he will be strong enough to uphold the political strings and to take the decisions he finds fair.  I believe that if the political parties allow him to bring in his ideas, it will be beneficial for the US and the world alike.  He has so many problems to tackle and he will have to address them simultaneously.  He will have to catch up on all issues- environment, economic, foreign policy.  I truly believe that the mismanagement of the economy in the bush era has led to this economic crisis which has outgrown America.  The market should be allowed to operate but government intervention in certain aspects is necessary to boost economic growth- eg health, education, social security up to a certain extent.  Now that US is already in a recession it will take innovative ideas and firm policies to take it out - government intervention is more required than in any other time.  There has been too many wastage with the ongoing wars. I believe that one of the underlying reasons of the recession was the massive expenditure on defence(ongoing wars).  This spending on defence could have been used productively in the economy and all this mess would have been averted.  Signing the environment treaty would have forced the American industries to invest in innovation and they might have become more efficient.

My belief is that Bush has turned the world upside down and we are all looking up to one man to redress it for us.  I wish the president Obama good luck and success in this endeavour.  We have so many expectations, we know that all cannot be met but we can still hope for positive results.
