I'm visiting the Netherlands!!!
« on: February 06, 2009, 06:46:23 PM »
Hello!!!

I'm visiting the Netherlands next 21st February. I'll be visiting a friend in Hengelo who is studying there an Erasmus course.

Is there anyone living nearby who could tell me what should I bring with me? I mean, I have never been there and I don't know if the weather is usually rainy, snowy, etc. I'll ask my friend but she arrived there some days ago is she is aaaalways cold (and when I say always is always, even when in Spain there are 30ºC in summer), so I don't know if she's going to be able to talk me about the real weather and what shall I bring there.

I'll be glad to have this information, I don't want to get a cold there!

Thanks in advance to all the Dutch people of the forum (I can't remember how many Dutchs have I seen in the forum, but I think there was more than one)

Kisses,

Laura.

I was send by Andy to this topic. It is already very late and the monday will be busy one. I will answer you at monday evening.
At the moment it is very rainy. You may have a look at www.buienradar.nl But she has the right be cold. It is very cold and wet at the moment. Today it was snowing, what is a bit rare, but it was above 0*C or C* :S
I am happy to hear you will go to the Netherlands. I have a thal friend who lives in Hengelo and Apeldoorn is not even so far away. Her name is Elmas and she was here a lot some years ago, but not anymore. Maybe you are talking about her? It is pretty cold at the moment yet. Is your friend studying in Enschede? Wht is she studying? I have been on the campus in Enschede and it made me feel depressed  :shy I hope Hengelo is better!

ttys, Dore
p.s. Your fellow-countryman is already in the country - Nadal. I will be able to see him playing when he wins his first match at wednesday. If you want to meet me or idnt know I will try to refresh my spanish ;) Are you planning to visit other cities as well? How long will you stay? I see 21th is next week... I will soon give you useful tips!

Hello everybody!!!

Thank you for all your responses and best wishes.

Peartree Girl ,

Thanks for the information, I think I'll have to go shopping  :wink.
My friend is studying in Enschede, she's studying to be a Teacher (I really don't know the name of the studies in English, in Spanish is Magisterio). For the moment she sais she is ok and everybody is treating her very well.
I'd like to meet Elmas but I think it would have to be a big coincidence since I'll be there for 3 days and we don't know each other.
Either way, I think I'll go again in May so maybe we can have a coffee in Apeldoorn or Hengelo.

Kisses,

Laura.

Hi Laura,

First of all: spent the time with your friend!
Second: Do not visit Apeldoorn. I did read today about the second robbery in daylight. Again there was a bag stolen of a woman. My mother knows the first and she has broken her shoulder at two places. The second had injuries as well.
Third: It is cold! Today I took the bike to the station and waiting for the international train to the airport. The first train went to Amsterdam and then I have to switch from train. This train went, the other train should come and they announced it had a delay of 45min (not any trains in the meanwhile). I went back home, because there is no place to stay warm and it was really cold. Last week I went three times to Adam and three times there were interruptions around Hengelo. Therefor buy something to drink and to eat, because you can never trust the Dutch railways. As for the international trains: you can take them with a normal ticket when you are travelling through NL.

So I suggest to bring your warm clothes with you. I think it will still rain a lot when you visit NL. If you dont have gloves (or you do not what to think about the weather) you can buy yourself here a pair. I will try to keep an eye on the news about the weather. I never do that, because it makes me feel depressed hahaha!

I dont think I ever have been in Henglo :idea Enschede is a good place to shop, I think. When I was there, there was no time to see of I was right.

I hope my information helps you a bit....

Bon voyage!

Dore

The weather:

Last night we drove from Rotterdam (west) to Apeldoorn (middle/east). The temperature went from 0 degree to -6 degree!
Rest of the week: The days are grey and drizzly. In the first days of the week is the temp. during the night above '0'. De rest of the days are colder. At this moment it is snowing, but the temp. is above '0'.

So it is gonna be depressing weather again: cold, grey and drizzly. My advice:  keep an eye at www.buienrader.nl

I wish you a really nice time in Hengelo despite the bad weather!!!!

Adíos, Dore
p.s. Tennis was really great. Too bad we had bad seats. My father has pretty bad eyes and could not read the score. So when there was sound he did not know why. I moved to the concrete stairs near his seat, because my seat was almost in the roof and such a melancholy place.

Hi!!!

The trip was wonderful. I thought it was going to rain much more but I didn't have to use my umbrella. I liked Hengelo and the other place I visit (the names of the places are too diffucult for me to remember). It was a village with a great carnival. I also visited Amsterdam and it is a nice place.

Everything was ok and the best of all was that the country itself is plain, I mean, there are no ups and downs so a thal person can walk more with less effort (in my city I get very tired if I have to walk for a long distance because of the different levels of the streets).

I hope I'll go again next spring and see more from your country.

Kisses,

Laura.
