Micky

Congratulations on this decrease. This is a very good sign. Usually the chelating dose of Asunra/exjade is 30mg/kilo.  Usually doctors start with alow dose until they reach the chelating dose in order to make the body get used to it and eliminate any side effects.

I think that Kabir will be doing well since no side effects were found during this month.

1- It is very important to do kidney and liver functions every month until everything is stable, then you can do them every 3 months. Serum calcium and phosphrous tests are advisable too.

2- Drinking a lot of water is extremely very important while taking Asunra

3- It is also important not to take any food rich in calcium 3 hours before or after taking Asunra as this will cause phosphrous deficency

4- Never use any metal with Asunra. The cup and the spoon should be plastic or wood or glass. No metal spoons at all because they react with the medicne losing its efficency.

Hope i have covered everthing thing, Zaini and Sharmin please add if i forget anything , thanks

Manal,You covered everything ,you are marvelousĀ  :hugfriend

Micky,

It's a very good news that Kabir's ferritin has decreased already, usually it takes a bit of time, surely your doc must have told you to give him Asunra on empty stomach and don't let him eat anything for 30 minutes after, and do not give any other medicine or supplement at the same time with Asunra.I am really happy that Kabir is saved from needle pokes of desferal, oral chelators indeed are  a huge and life changing break through for thals. As Manal advised,Please keep checking his Serum Creatinine and SGPT levels every month, and complete blood count also,to be aware of any cytopenia if it occures.

Good luckĀ  :goodluck

Zaini.
