What should I expect
« on: March 31, 2009, 06:06:55 AM »
My sons Paedatricians and our GP are convinced that he has thalessemia major and we are waiting for tests results to come back.

If he is positive, what do I expect to happen? I have 3 other children and at the moment my husband is working away, I pray that they are wrong but he fits the symtoms so well.

His is 3 years old

Hello,

Thalassemia major mostly get diagnosed during the first year of life, but e have heard stories where patients were diagnosed later, can you tell me what is his hb currently, its a possibility that he might be an intermedia or a minor,hb level can tell a lot,but as you are waiting for test results it would be better that we see what dostors have to say.I hope he is just a minor.

In thalassemia major, patients need transfusions on the regular basis, some go every four weeks or three weeks, the elder patients even need to go bi weekly.

Do update us,we are all here for you. :hugfriend
