I want to wish all the best to Helen from Australia (Eleni in our group) who is scheduled to have her second child delivered on Tuesday, April 28. At 40, Helen will be having her second boy. Through much persistence with IVF, Helen and her husband will be rewarded again with a child.
Who would think that a 40 year old thal would be having her second child? This is a great testimony to how far treatment for thalassemia has progressed and Helen should be a great inspiration to all prospective thal moms. One big lesson here is to be absolutely religious about your chelation, as Helen has been, because it is the single most important thing if you wish to have children (and stay alive to enjoy them).
I'll keep everyone updated as soon as I know more. Meanwhile, I hope everyone wishes Helen and her family the best.
