Sharmn,

Has Oakland discussed a target ferritin level? As we heard in NYC, this is now quite a debate on how low the target should be and we did hear some talk that normal may be the best target. This will take close monitoring to make sure normal iron stores are not depleted but I believe we will eventually be seeing normal iron load as the goal of chelation.

Hi Andy,

A target ferritin level was not discussed.  I think that they were waiting to see the results of his next SQUID to determine how things are going.   Personally, I am beginning to think that we should get his iron levels to 100 and then place him on a small maintenance dose - if his transfusion requirement remains low. 

I will give them a call soon.  I do think that his ferritin levels correlate quite well with his ferritin.  In February 09 his ferritin was 1450 and his SQUID was 1500.  In the summer His ferritin was 893 and his SQUID value was 933.  I am guessing that his SQUID value will be around 500 right now.

I hope that the numbers remain good now,
