white blood cells and chemo
« on: September 03, 2009, 11:36:32 PM »
My aunt was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2007.  With chemotherapy she completely recovered and she was cancer free for 2 years.  Her response to chemo was really good. Recently a small tumor was found on the liver, and everything else tested normal.  She will receive 6 chemo treatments to ensure that the tumor is gone.  She was supposed to receive her 2nd chemo tomorrow but her white blood cells are low.  Is there anything she can do to improve her white blood cells so that she can have her chemo the week after?  She has been told not to have antioxidants or garlic during her chemo.

Thank you kindly for your help,

Sharmin

When my wife was on chemo she had Neupogen shots to raise her white cells. It is very difficult to suggest anything of a supplement nature because so many are antioxidants. I would however, recommend wheatgrass tabs.

Thank you kindly Andy, I have passed on the information.

Thank you so much Kathy, she is a very sweet lady and her prognosis is good.  It is hard to watch her suffer the chemo for a second time though.  The virtual flowers do help:):)

Sharmin,

My wife took wheatgrass extract and tabs daily during her chemo. She did fairly well and her blood counts stayed good. Her Hb never dropped below 11. Her doctors expected much worse.  I highly recommend wheatgrass during chemo.

Thank you Andy,

I will recommend them to her.  She is very good about taking supplements.
