Hmm, Miaki  thou doth mock mine sport! I must defend its honour!!!   :rotfl

I used to jokingly call cricket "My religeon" but found that this had the very real potential to cause offense and thusly stopped.

Theres nothing quite like steaming in, as fast as you can run and bowling a very hard red ball with the intention of cuncussing the opposing batsman.........Ahh the joy of it  :wink

I recall my wifes first Christmas spent with my family and her reaction to the "friendly" backyard game of cricket between my brother and myself. She ran out during the middle of one particularly heated over {Set of six deliveries Miaki  :biggrin} and implored my brother and I not to fight. I hastily explained that it was all just bluff and bluster and part of the game while my wally of a brother literally rolled around on the ground laughing until had quite a bad  coughing fit...served him right to!

Sherbet  - Howzat

You told me I was the one
The only one who got your head undone
And for a while I believed the line that you spun

But I've been looking at you
Looking closely at the things you do
I didn't see it the way you wanted me to

How how howzat
You messed about
I caught you out
Howzat
Now that I found where you're at
It's goodbye
Well howzat
It's goodbye

You only came for a smile
Even though you're really not my style
I didn't think that you'd run me 'round
Like you do

How how howzat
You messed about
I caught you out
Howzat
Now that I found where you're at
It's goodbye
Well howzat
It's goodbye
Aha
O yeah, oh yeah

Well I've been looking at you
(I'll tell you what I see)
Looking closely at the things you do
(No you can't fool me)
I didn't see it the way you wanted me to

How how howzat
You messed about
I caught you out
Howzat
Now that I found where you're at
It's goodbye

Howzat
You messed about
I caught you out
Howzat
Now that I found where you're at
It's goodbye
Well howzat
Goodbye
Oh yeah, oh yeah

Doo-wah doo-wah doo-wah doo-wah
Doo-wah doo-wah doo-wah doo-wah

Aaaaaaaaaah

Well I have to tell you TrueBlue (and anybody else who reads this post  :biggrin )

One summer's day, actually Australia Day weekend  down at Mornington (seaside area)  (the annual Greek picnic where all the Greeks of Melbourne congrigate and share stories, olives, and how many goats they all had back in the village OH and home made brew) I was playing this so called game of cricket. There was only one bat,  so the person batting had to drop the bat and do the runs.

Well I slog the ball (I think you call that a  six - anyway very very far) hung onto the bat and started running up and down this silly pitch. My cousin on the other end,  pompos cow didn't run just stood on the side and watched me. Anyway when i stopped running i said to her come and get the bat because i am completely buggered. She uttered a very insulting comment and the words of  "I don't want to use your bat" when I asked her why, she comes out with "You've got thal major and I don't want to catch it" I looked at her and thought what do I say to this stupid girl who has no understanding of the condition. I just starred at her and she was going on and on. By this stage I had enough of her so instead of dropping the bat and walking off the pitch,  i decided to dong her one over the head with the cricket bat and then walk off the pitch.

But after I watched her fall like a bag of spuds to the ground. Happy with my end result I walked away and told her that she better go to the hospital to be tested incase she caught Thal Major off the bat.

WOW!  You should really love the game after that Miaki!  See.... all Australian's DO love playing sport... just some choose not to follow it regularly.

Quote
Miaki, Smurfette, you make me wonder about the truth of the "Australian sports loving public" image in mainstream media ......

Ok... actually I lied.  MOST Australians love to watch sport and back a winner, but can't get off the armchair to do anything but get another beer.

I actually fell in love with cricket in primary school.  I was in grade 5 (second last grade of primary school), and the best cricketer (boy) in the school was batting.  All the best bowlers had failed to get him out, and I was put in as a last resort (the only girl in my grade, so they didn't think I would be any good).  On the second ball I got him with a yorker!!!  never to be repeated of course...  but at least I had 5 minutes of cricketing fame.  I bet you were famous too Miaki!   :wink
