can exjade be mixed in cold juice?
« on: July 10, 2010, 06:50:32 AM »
Hi
I wanted to know if exjade could be dispersed in refrigerated juice. To date I have been using 200ml tetra pack juice at room temperature to mix the med. Recently I have split Hassans dose to twice a day. I use 100ml in the morning and the remaining 100ml in the evening. Inshallah we are going for our vaccation to India on tuesday, If I leave the 100ml unused juice on the kitchen counter in India it would be a welcome drink for countless ants. That is why I want to know if anyone of you mix your exjade in cold juice.

thankyou

The assumption is that the juice is refrigerated. Cold juice would not affect the efficacy of Exjade, so please do refrigerate the juice.

Thankyou Andy, I will start to refrigerate from today itself so that Hassan gets used to drinking cold juice.

Thankyou once again

We all have funny ways of feeding our kids exjade. Really, whatever that can get the exjade down is welcomed. My son use to take his exjade with nutella, chocolate, Milo. 3 weeks ago, he told me he didn't need any of those anymore. (He used to chew the pill down) He is about to turn 7 and he can now swallow. Doesn't like it in water. He gags. Just swallow.

hi Jia,

as far as i know, (from what i have learned from the exjade/asunra booklet/manual), it is very specifically said not to swallow, chew or mix it with milk (i have no idea what happens if someone does that)

but it is said to stir it in water or juice and drink the solution.. maybe u need to check it with ure doctor? or someone from here can shed some more light on this?

The instructions from Novartis specifically do say that the tablets should not be chewed.

Quote
Take Exjade once daily on an empty stomach at least 30 minutes before food, preferably at the same time each
day. Do not chew tablets or swallow them whole. Do not take Exjade with aluminum-containing antacid
products. Calculate doses (mg/kg per day) to the nearest whole tablet. Completely disperse tablets by stirring in
water, orange juice, or apple juice until a fine suspension is obtained.
Disperse doses of <1 g in 3.5 ounces of
liquid and doses of ≥1 g in 7.0 ounces of liquid. After swallowing the suspension, resuspend any residue in a
small volume of liquid and swallow.

Dear Maha,

Exjade can be mixed with juice at any temperature.  I have found however that exjade dissolves better in water - but my son likes the taste of juice better.  Here is our method of mixing his exjade.

We place the exjade in a shallow plastic cup.  We put in just enough water to cover the exjade and allow it to dissolve.  We then stir the mixture and add juice - stir and then offer it to our son.  You will find that the exjade will dissolve faster and more completely in the water than the juice.

Best,

Sharmin

I mixed mine the same way. About half an ounce of warm water mix well, then pour about 3.5 ounces of cold orange juice in it.

Hi Sharmin
I will try your method tomorrow. It used to take a long time to dissolve in cold juice and Hassan didn't like it cold too. Now that I am back in Dammam I have been giving him the same way I used to give before.  :hugfriend
