Thalassemia is much easier to deal with when you don't have to deal with it. Get tested. Know your status.

Yes Madhavi,

I was surprised when I learned some years ago that in India, people will trust a horoscope and ignore the reality of carrier status. In many countries, arranged marriages also ignore the facts. It's a huge task to educate people so that they will act sensibly.

Dear Andy and all friends...
This is indeed surprising to many not aware of Indian customs and culture...but I feel that it is not that they hide the thal status on purpose but they lack awareness.Thalassemia is not registered as a huge problem and that is why it is overlooked. Of course there is a lot of importance given to things like horoscope matching for a marriage alliance.
Awareness is a very important thing. And sometimes I think that if aware, people would definitely get their thal status checked. The newer generation is better aware than their predecesors and awareness campaigns would make a difference I hope.

I trying to make aware some people,who use facebook.I make a thalasamia awareness group in facebook called thalasamia protirod {defence} group.When i have time i mail every member to tell them what is thalasamia.
