can thal minor donate for stem cell transplants?

a child with leukemia needs an HLA match for stem cell transplant. could thal minors donate?

As some of you know, Rayan, was diagnosed a few weeks ago with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL), a form of blood cancer. Only 3, Rayan is now in URGENT need of ablood/stem cell transplant. He has not been able to find a perfect match which will increase his chances of survival.

We are holding a Drive to get people tested. The test is free, painless and takes 30 seconds.

Taking a test:
Simple, painless cheek swab test (saliva sample taken from the mouth), takes 30 seconds only.
Anyone in good health between 18-60 can join.
Gender & blood type are not relevant.

If matched then:
Simple Outpatient Procedure - can be as simple as donating blood
Donors generally go home the same day
Typically, no more than slight discomfort to help save a life!

Thal minors can donate bone marrow to thal majors, and in many BMT's between siblings, a minor sibling's bone marrow is used if it's a match. The cured child will also be a thal minor. I don't know if there's anything that would prevent donating for leukemia. I think minors should also be tested and if a match is found, it should be used, as this situation is urgent.

I am so sorry to hear about Rayan  i hope they can find a match for him,i have a couple of friends in ISB,i'll forward this message to them,but if they didn't find a match in family,isn't it very unlikely to find an unrelated donor ?
