That will be directly related to the Hb level. If your Hb is high enough to donate, you will also have more stable red blood cells.

Is that the only connection? Aren't there other factors rendering our rbcs unstable and prone to more rapid lysis?
Hb oxygen binding capacity would be another problem to be concened of but I guess it doesn't matter all that much if someone is receiving several bags from different donors.

I tried to donate blood about 2 years ago and I was not sucessful. My iron level was too low and my veins are too small. The needle goes through my veins. I have trouble getting enough blood to have a blood test done. My son is Thal Minor and he sucessfully donates blood regularly. He is 21. He shows a few symtoms such as colds often and he tires easily but they still allow him to donate blood when he doesn't have a cold. As for me, I have far too many symtoms so I have been told to forget about trying to donate blood in future.
