This says that these people are 'human models' of
pyruvate kinase deficiency.
They are all iron loading THEN they 'catch' it.
IE: leukemia being treated with iron chelators.
Polycythemia is an iron loading disease treated by
phlebotomy.
Iron before the protein kinase deficiency ..

Acquired pyruvate kinase deficiency with hemolysis in preleukemia

Journal: Acta Haematologica
Acquired erythrocyte pyruvate kinase deficiency may appear as a
symptom secondary to various hematologic disorders, e.g. acute
leukemia, sideroblastic anemia, polycythemia vera.
The case of a 68-year-old patient with PK deficiency (1.75 U/g Hb)
and severe hemolytic anemia is presented, who 1 year later showed
acute myeloid leukemia.
It is considered that a dialysable inhibiting factor may play a
pathogenetic role in this enzyme change since enzyme activity was
raised by dialysis.
A survey of the literature is presented.

This seems to say they now BELIEVE there IS a connection to hemochromatosiis genetically and iron overload in untransfused hemolytic anemia is common.

I have article at around 1970 who says that about PK deficiency. I have know that for a long time. If you are so into these things; did you do research on hepcidin?

Hey,
Got some news about PKD and oxydation. I hope I spelled the latter well. Oxidative stress works in PKD the same as in SCD. Since I know that I try to limit my excess biking tours and I try to take things slowely and regularly. [I am so bad in taking my rest in time] However, the upcoming years we can except to hear from time to time something about PKD. We are not longer only a paper from a medical book, thanks to that.
Thank you for your articles, Ironjustice. I still do believe we are all doing better with low iron levels. Mine are getting higher and higher again.. :(( It's now 2000-2200)
