High Protein Diet
« on: August 14, 2011, 10:21:57 AM »
Hi all,

My Pa was recently in hospital and there was a man there that had beta major who was advised to eat a high protein diet.
I have beta minor but still get the extreme tiredness/lethargy, quick muscle fatigue at any form of exercise. I can sleep for 10 hours and wake up tired.

Just wondering if anyone has tried this high protein diet and whether it helps with the fatigue?

I am a beta thal intermedia and I've been on a high protein diet for years and while it helps build muscle I can't say that is helps with fatigue that much. I normally workout with weights 4 days a week and I also work an 8-5 desk job along with raising kids and household chores, but i can still sleep 10hrs and wake up tired almost every day.

My daughter was put on a high protein diet help with weight gain and tireness.

It did help at the time and only because the doctor believed her calorie intake had previously been too low for her amount of excerise.

Also note my daughter current daignosis is iron deficency anemia.

It you do high protein diet be carefully of the supplements as most of them contain added iron.

Is added iron bad? I currently have iron deficiency anaemia also.

I exercise 10-15 hours a week whilst also going to university for 10 hours a week. Can sleep for 10+ hours and wake up absolutely exhausted.

If you have been diagnosed as iron deficient through an iron panel of tests, then you do need iron either through diet or supplements. With your schedule, it may be difficult to follow a good diet, but you should try to make sure you are getting nutritious foods.
