Hi,
I have B-Thal Major and I have been on a low iron diet for years and I am also on a low fat diet. What I mostly eat is...
Meats:
Chicken,Turkey & fish
(I do however eat some red meats, but not a whole lot and I eat some some pork, but I'm not a big fan of pork)
Vegetables:
Green beans, potatoes, carrots & corn (be careful with the amount of corn, it has high in iron)
(Turnips and radishes have low iron, but I don't eat them; he should however stay away from green leafy vegetables, because they are very high in iron )
Fruits:
apples, peaches, pares, grapes, pineapple, mandarin oranges, strawberries, blueberries, cantaloupe
(fresh fruits are the best for people with iron issues, the fruits that are considered the lowest in iron are blueberries, honeydew melon & apples)
Dairy
cheese & yogurt (these are very low in iron)
Other:
white rice (extremely low in iron)
breads & cereals (watch how much you eat of bread)
Foods that your husband should stay away from are....
Raisins
Red Meat
Broccoli
Spinach
Asparagus
Fig
Green Peas
Dates
Soybeans
Cashews
Egg
