same supplements for thal major and minor??
« on: December 13, 2011, 02:24:31 PM »
I'm confused.

My hemoglobin is usually 9, the reports say thal minor AND/OR iron deficiency.

In case I am iron deficient too, which of the supplements would I take long term? Are the supplements for thal majors with excess iron, the same as those for thal minors? My ferritin never goes above 20, but iron supplements cause severe health issues. So I avoid them.

I also have a problem with strength/stamina, and orthostatic hypotension, which is improving with exercise and healthy eating.

My long term concerns would be heart/lung issues, cancer, and other ageing issues.

I take Folic acid,  Calcium/mg/D,  B vitamins,  Lacto bacillus, melatonin,  Vit E, Omega 3.  I also take enzyme pills with every meal.

I'm hypothyroid too.

Can someone please guide me? Do i need L-carnitine, Ip6, Alpha lipoic acid, etc ?

Thanks. :-)

Hi Pretty,

I don't think you would need IP6 unless you were to learn that you do have an iron load. Because of your ongoing digestive issues, I would advise not adding a lot of others to the mix. I would consider the others optional, although depending on your diet, you may want to add L-carnitine or L-arginine or L-citrulline at some point in the future. I've been taking Conjugated Linoleic Acid for at least 6 months to see if it has any effect on asthma, but so far I haven't seen any difference.

All we are saying is give thals a chance.

Thanks Andy,

P.S.  The only stuff that helps my respiratory allergies is Vit C and homeopathy. Otherwise I have chronic sinusitis and throat issues almost always.  Hope your asthma is helped with something.
