Hi Sajid,
As u said, in Islam, fastin in the month of ramadhan is a must for muslims, but provided ure health doesnt become any worse because of fasting.
I am a thal major of 22 years and i have been fasting every ramadhan (all the days except transfusion) for about the last 10 years. I have never been advised by the dr. not to fast due to thal, becoz except of thal, i dont have any other complications. So for me its not a big issue to fast, infact i welcome it coz even most of the normal days i would be usually with one or two meals per day
. I have never noticed that i have to have transfusions more quickly or anything like that becoz i fast.
But, in ramadhan specially, when the date for transfusion is near and if the hb is a bit lower than what it should be, i get really tired. In that case i break fast for about a day or so until i transfuse, to avoid feeling weak. I re-fast these days i dint fast in another month after ramadhan ends..
Thats me. But I know thals who fast even with diabetics.. They somehow shift the times of they take insulin around the day they are fasting. One of my diabetic thal friend takes Insulin right after breakfast and just before starting fast for the next day (i really dont know how but they do it and i feel amazed coz they seem completly healthy even after fasting)...
What im trying to say is that, maybe fasting doesnt depend on what the dr says. As adult thals, we would probably know if it would affect our health or not. So it is upto us to decide whether we can fast or not, becoz i think we know ourselves better than any doctor does.
