Dear Andy Sir n all my friends,

My 3 yr old thal major daughter currently is on BT every 4 weeks.

Dr has advised only folic acid syrup - 2.5 ml twice a day. No other supplements. Pls advise what other supplements she needs at this stage to avoid any complications in future. I don't want my child to suffer more due to my carelessness.

Thanking u in anticipation.

Oh Rimaben, kem cho? :)

Haha, couldn't resist speaking in Gujarati. I live in Vadodara by the way, and Dharmesh lives in Rajkot.

Well Rima, as now your daughter's weight is 12 kg, you should consider increasing the dosage of Asunra, i.e. 12 (kg) x 30 (mg) = 360 mg. So you can safely give your daughter up to 360 mg of Asunra. I would at least advice you to give 3 x 100mg = 300 mg in total dosage tablets of Asunra to her instead of 200 mg so that the iron won't overload and would stay in a normal limit/range and your daughter's growth would be very normal like any other normal girl or a person. Also keep on checking on her weight every 2-3 months as well as her ferritin so you know how much dose would be appropriate for her.

Next, for a healthy life and to keep her active, you should along with folic acid, give her Vitamin E tablets, B-complex (this should be enough for her age). Tablets like b-complex and Vitamin E would keep her stamina up, healthy and will keep her fatigue/laziness away and would also help her in numerous ways.

About diet, give her fresh fruits and good vegetables to eat. Just make sure you don't give her food containing a lot of iron such as very green leafy vegetables which contains a lot of iron, some biscuits, etc. But don't worry about fruits like apple (your doc may say not to let her eat apple but that's fine, apple doesn't have much iron so she could safely eat it if she likes it, i eat up to 3-4 apples a day, haha).

Also make sure to give her tea during meals so the food iron would be absorbed by tea and would be excreted via feces/excreta. And also don't give her too much of Vitamin C as it frees out a lot of iron in blood steam and may deposit in vital organs. That doesn't mean not to completely abandon Vitamin C foods, but just give in low amounts.

I hope this helps you, feel free to ask anything. :)

Hello Rima,
Actually Pratik said everything, so just avoid iron rich foods like beat etc.
Give your daughter each and every iteam in diet which can be given as per her age.
About supplements as your daughter is only 3 yrs , i don't know that Calcium and other supplements can be given or not except Folic Acid.
You should consult your pediatrician time to time for these and the dosage as she is only 3 yrs old.
Hey but what's your daughter's name is?
I am feeling happy that you are very eager to know all these, continuous monitoring can lead her to a healthy and normal life.
Best of Luck.
Start listening your body, it always gives signs
