IGF-1 supplement?
« on: December 10, 2012, 06:38:58 AM »
I was stumbled upon this while searching something else:

http://www.seacoast.com/igf-1-insulin-growth-factors/now-foods/30-lozenges/p7519

From what I know, IGF-1 is also responsible for growth and other factors such as increase in height and other hormone functions.

So Andy or anyone,

can this be useful for increasing height or to elevate hormonal function for thal majors?

And it's one of the ingredients contains:

Deer Antler Velvet Extract (33 mg).

So is it Non-veg? What exactly above content is?

How safe would it be to take this product or whether if it could be actually beneficial?

Deer antler velvet is not veg, as it is harvested from living deer, so it is an animal product. Deer are not killed to harvest it, but the process does cause some pain and bleeding to deer. http://wildpro.twycrosszoo.org/S/00Man/PainRumOverviews/PainProc/P01PainPrev_Deer_Velvet_Antler_Rem.htm

You can read more about its uses at http://www.drugs.com/npp/deer-velvet.html

It may have some value for thals http://www.cnbc.com/id/44075592/Deer_Antler_Velvet_Sales_On_The_Rise_Does_It_Really_Work

In what might be the most important study done in the United States, a group of scientists took 32 male weight lifters and gave half of them New Zealand Deer Antler Velvet and half of them a placebo for 10 weeks. While the placebo group didn't show any difference in bench or squat tests, those given deer antler velvet saw an increase of 4 percent on the bench press and 10.1 percent on the squat test as compared to the placebo group. The scientists also reported that there was a "significant improvement in aerobic capacity" with the group that was taking deer antler velvet.

NOW Foods is good quality. I use their liquid vitamin D which is made from the lanolin of sheep's wool. Not a vegan product but can't be considered non-veg either.

Thank you Andy but I was more curious about its usability for thal majors. Do you think it maybe helpful for growth hormone secretion or its formation?

Its not just about deer antlet. It also contains 83.5 ng IGF-1. Can it make a significant diff. for us thal majors? Can that product be helpful?

It's possible that it could help majors but there is no research on it. IGF-1 levels are often low in thal majors and this is suspected as a contributing factor to osteoporosis. The product looks completely safe. In theory, this will help strengthen the bones and encourage growth. I think this is a case where you would have to try it for awhile to see if it makes a difference. It may also have some beneficial effect for diabetics.

Yes, it does indeed may have good effect on diabetes as IGF-1 is a useful substance for the same.

I got my IGF-1 levels tested back in 2009 during Osteoporosis and they were low. I was also given HGH for 4 months, but I did not show any sign of increase in height or such factors. Although my leg bones started to strengthen when on HGH.

But I measured my height recently a couple of days back and I could see an increase of 3cm. I feel Osteocare maybe working well, after all bones needs adequate substances to expand it's plate and Osteocare maybe supplementing good.

I hope that I can at least reach 5"6.
