Hi fellow thalassemics

Hi everyone iam new on here, i was very happy to find this website as it would be great to talk to others who have my condition! I have never met anyone else who has thalassemia major. Iam 31 years old, i go for a transfusion every 4 weeks and my ferritin is 600. Iam on dessferal which i take 4 times a week. Anyone in similar situation feel free to msg :)

Hi Nicole,

Your ferritin level is good. Have you also had liver and heart scans to measure iron loading in your organs?

Hi Andy, yes i have MRI scans every couple of years.  There is no iron in my heart (touch wood) and just a very small amount in my liver which my consultant said not to worry about as its not a lot.  I have always taken my medication from a very young age, something which i want to tell other thal's to also do as it pays off in the long run.
