High Altitude Mountain activities
« on: November 12, 2013, 05:36:47 PM »
Hello.
I was wondering if someone with Thalassemia Minor has completed the Kilimanjaro climb or any climb above 5,000 m. I plan to do the Kilimanjaro marathon and then do the 5 day climb. I was diagnosed as a child and my Hemoglobin is in 11.7-12.3 range. Only in my late 40s I started doing endurance sports and so far I am asymptomatic. Thank you.

I've done Panchgani in India, but it's right under 5,000ft. However, I feel like I could have easily continued. I also had a knee brace on because I had ACL reconstruction on my knee the previous month.

Hello HANUMANT. Yes! I was there a couple of years ago for about two weeks. It was buisness related, but I loved it! I despareately want to go back some day. I stayed in Pune. I have four albums of photos on my FB page if you'd like to see them.

I have thalassemia intermedia (hg 9ish) and have a trip to New Mexico for scouts coming up next year where the elevation is higher than here in Fl.
We are doing a 7 day backpacking trek hiking up mountains and I am worried I may not be able to do it physically all though mentally I feel I can.
Any pointers to help me through it?
