viral fever !!!! HU stopped

My daughter who is taking HU has had fever for the past 4 days. So her doctor has stopped HU. Today I am starting antibiotics since her fever is still there. Doctor has also asked me to get her hb checked to see if it has dropped. How likely is it that her hb has dropped ? Also can I give her folic acid and all other vitamins she normally takes with HU ? I would also like to add that her fever is not high stays between 99 and 100F . I really don't want her to get a blood transfusion!!!!!

There's a good chance the fever will cause a drop in Hb, but that is usually temporary. You can give all the supplements with HU. Some enhance its effectiveness.

I just got my daughters hb and it has dropped from 6.8 to 6.2 . Andy I think its due to her viral fever and the fact that HU was stopped during fever. She has started antibiotic today. Her doctor said that she still doesn't need blood transfusion and to continue with the antibiotic. I forgot to ask the doctor can I give her HU during her antibiotic course. Or I have to finish her antibiotics and then start HU again. In your experience can HU be given with antibiotics. Plz do reply to me. I don't want her hb to drop any further. Plz guide me what to do.

HB reading is affected due to fever, so it is not accurate. Please give the child lots of fluids.

I concur with Narendra. Don't worry about giving her hydroxyurea until she is recovered and give her plenty of fluids.
