Looking for advice on chelation
« on: March 16, 2014, 11:03:19 PM »
Hi,
I have been receiving mini phlebotomies for about 3 1/2 months. ( I Have pk deficiency not thal) I've been drinking green tea and taking IP6 for the past 5 months. My ferritin has dropped from 1,021 to 917. My hb usually is in the low 6's and since my bone marrow is revved up from being bled it has been about 6.8. I guess I am tolerating it okay. I'm always tired, but I was tired before starting this as well.  My Dr is open to discussing using Exjade. I don't like the feeling I get after my phlebs. I can't explain it. My heart doesn't race or anything, I just feel very emotional. Is that weird? Do you think this is stressing my bone marrow too much? Is that a significant ferritin drop given all that I am doing? I welcome any thoughts or opinions! Thank you!

A low dose of Exjade would be appropriate and by utilizing a low dose, most side effects will be avoided. I don't know if there is added stress to the bone marrow from phlebotomy because your Hb is already very low, so the bone marrow would already be quite stressed.

Thank you, Andy! I met with my doc today and I will be starting on Exjade in a few weeks. It was funny - my hematologist said that I knew more about the drug than he did. Thank you to this website!
I'll soon be investigating the previous threads with all the Exjade tips!
Thanks again! This forum is the best.

Let me know the prescribed dose before you start. It's best to start slowly with Exjade and allow your body to get used to the drug.

I will absolutely let you know, Andy. I'm quite sure it is the lowest dose available. Just happy to be done with the phlebs! Thanks so much for your support!

Hi Andy,
Just received my Exjade delivery along with a fancy mixing contraption - 500mg tablet 1x per day.

That's a pretty low dose, so you shouldn't see much in side effects.

Suelou,

IP6 is a natural supplement and should not interfere with you taking exjade.  Exjade is a potent drug that will remove iron from the tissue.  IP6 is a natural supplement that will work slowly to protect the tissue from iron damage and will bind with free iron and other free radicals in the body and therefore promote good health.

Sharmin,
Excellent! I can take them both on an empty stomach then! Thank you for your response. I apologize for such a delay- I hadn't seen your response.
 :thankyou
