Families with more that 1 Thal Major kids
« on: April 12, 2014, 08:55:55 AM »
I have come across many stories where a family has more than 1 thal major child. In these families, is the other affected child of the same gender? Do you know of any families with 2 boys major or 2 girls major or 1 boy 1 girl major. Andy, when you said there are some families you have known with 3 majors, are they all the same gender? I'm developing a study to understand this deeply. Your experiences will be invaluable.

I have not seen anything that suggests they would all be the same gender. I've known many families with more than one thal and often it's both sexes. It's purely chance, just like all births.
Andy

All we are saying is give thals a chance.

I have 2 major.
Both boys. but 2 of my friends got 1 boy and 1 girl.
It's not necessary 1 gender.

I have 2 boys with thal and a friend of mine has 2 girls with thal.  I agree with Andy though.  Pure Chance. Nothing to do with gender.

I know a family with two boys and one girl. All three of them have Thalassemia. Don't think gender has anything to do with it, but I may be wrong.

i know a family with 3 thalassemia major boys ... some families with 2 thal maj boys ... but in my family on of my sister was a thal major patient.. so i think like some others said ,  gender has nothing to do with it ....
Sometimes , God breaks our spirit to save our soul.
Sometimes , He breaks our heart to make us whole.
Sometimes , He sends us pain so we can be stronger.
Sometimes , He sends us failure so we can be humble.
Sometimes , He sends us illness so we can take better care of our selves.
Sometimes , He takes everything away from us so we can learn the value of everything we have.
