Hi,

I don't have the answer to your question, but I inform you that Dr. Pietro Sodani (Cure Thalassemia scientific coordinator) in case of HLA matched sibling suggests to use the bone marrow and not the cord blood.
The reason is that with the bone marrow there is a lower risk both of rejection and to have a graft-versus-host disease (GVHD).
Furthermore, in the bone marrow there is usually a greater number of stem cells useful for the transplant.

Good to know. Yes I don't give much importance to advertising companies too in general but Lifecell is a world renowned company so I thought maybe that helps. Nice to know that we have good options today.

I've asked to Dr. Sodani and he is not aware of a scientific paper with a comparative study between BMT and cord blood in thalassemia.
