This is a tough decision, because the baby would be transfusion dependent. So, you have to look at the treatment available in Vietnam. Is transfusion available? Is chelation available? Are there doctors with at least a basic understanding of thalassemia? If a thal child can get adequate care, there is no need to terminate the pregnancy, but if treatment would be seriously lacking, then another decision may be needed. In today's world, thals can live long healthy lives, as long as they can get their treatment regularly.
