My asymptomatic 15 year son has been mentioned as having blood smear and Hb electrophoresis findings consistent with alpha thalasemia trait. There are no abnormal hemoglobins. Only some HbH inclusion bodies on occasional RBC's. Does this pose a problem in visa immigration to New Zealand ? He has slightly low MCV,MCH values. Majority of RBC'S are normocytic with mildly hypochromia. There are some microcytes, poikilocytes, target cells, pencil and ellipsoid cells. No blast cells. No Iron profile or RCDW done. He has been asymptomatic since birth and is now 15 years old with normal growth and no splenomegaly. His hemoglobin is normal at 12
