Hello Aaron18,

We have a few members who have both thal major and diabeties.  I do believe that some of them have experienced improvement of their diabeties with better chelation.

Hi
There is 50% chance that diabetes will be reversed after ferritin and iron level gets under control.
(Source Thalpal :biggrin)

In other cases, The insulin requirement comes down when ferritin level falls.

Managing Diabetes is much tough thing than Thal. Consulting a good Endocrinologist is must

It is also advisable not to keep sugar in perfect control as it can lead to severe hypoglycemia

That is great advice, H. I lost a friend (not a thal) last year when his sugar dropped too low and he went into a coma. He eventually succumbed to heart failure. It isn't just high sugar that's dangerous. Low sugar can kill a person.

My deep Condolence for your friend.

I had gone through low sugar at night around 3 am  because of one idiot Endocrinologist who gave me excessively high dosage of insulin. Only because of god grace i came back to life otherwise that was the most dangerous night of my life. Bull shit Endo.

My sincere gratitude to Shree Kapila Hanumanji, Maa & Gurudev to gave me new life.

PS
Last week i gave sample for HbA1c but theri both machine failed to gave reading. I am little bit puzzuled why it happend?
Does it has any connection with my Fetal Hb?

I don't know why they couldn't get a reading for HbA1c, but that test is only useful for comparison from time to time in a diabetic. It has no other value for anyone carrying thalassemia, other than to monitor already diagnosed diabetes. Variant Hb's like HbF may alter the outcome of the test. I think some of it has to do with the expertise of the tech running the test.
