Telfairia Occidentalis For Andy's Attention
« on: July 31, 2016, 05:15:47 AM »
Hi Andy,  I just wanted you to know that there is a vegetable called Ugu where I live but the scientific name is Telfairia Occidentalis. When juiced it raises hb levels in less than a week. The first time I tried it,  I went from 8.2 or so to about 10. something in less than a week and a half.  I'll try and post a link to some studies done on it.  Maybe you have contacts to thal doctors or those trying to find a cure for thalasseamia that can do more research on it? But here once people are anaemic,  they immediately go purchase the vegetable from the market. It can be taken raw,  mixed with milk or malt drink.  I drink mine alone because I am intolerant to both milk and barley. The only thing with it is that sometimes it makes me a little bloated and sends me to the toilet. Other times it doesn't. So I'm thinking maybe it has to do with how I'm juicing it or that I'm drinking too much and will find out how other people here prepare the juice.  But guaranteed it raises hb only I have not been consistent at all with it hence why my hb has dipped again. Do let me know your thoughts.

Thanks for bringing this plant to my attention. It seems to have remarkable properties. Studies show it definitely raises Hb levels and also has use in sickle cell disease. I can't find much in relation to thalassemia, but it does seem that the plant or the extract could be beneficial to thals, but I don't think an extract is available to purchase.

If anyone else has access to this plant and uses it, please let us know your results. This would be of great benefit to minors and probably even majors.

Here are some of the links I found that review Telfairia Occidentalis.
