Hi
SF said (May I ask why he's off of Desferal or any other chelator?)
actually after bone marrow transplant the Dr said it's no good to give him Desferal or any chelator because it's harmfull for the new bone marrow so i start give
him alot of black tea and alot of water to encrease the voliume of the urine ....and in the 30 of june 2009 it will be 4 years from the second transplant ( first transplant is failure),,,,,,

Khalifa,

Sorry, I wasn't aware of your son's history. Alhumdulillah, he's cured and he doesn't have to deal with DFO or any other chelators no more!!!... totally makes sense! I wish your son all the best in his life, Ameen!

Thanks Andy for pointing this out.

Best Regards,
SF

Hi A J and welcome to the site :wink i am happy to know that you are learning from the site :wink

Tea in general whether green of black inhibits iron absoarption from the diet, so it helps with the chelating medicines like desferal, exjade or kelfer/L1

Also there is other food supplements that combines with the iron free radicales and causes organ damge like IP6. IP6 is very effective with the chelating drugs and many of our members use it and find it good

I am a new member looking for help with Thalassemia. My ferritin level is 25 and I desperately need to increase that level, but as yet I haven't found the right supplement that will work. The side effect of constipation can become so severe that I am unable to take iron supplements regularly. I also have RLS and the usual medications for that problem need a high ferritin level to work properly. I am seeing a hematologist regularly but, I am curious to know if anyone else has or had a problem similiar to mine and were able to treat it sucessfully.
