Hi Red,

So what you're saying is that using the needles is a finely tuned art.  :rotfl

Thanks for another unique and entertaining post. By the way, your technique does work, as I have heard a similar technique described by one of the older patients I know (but with a nowhere near as enjoyable to read description).

Keep up the great posts. You're giving an interesting perspective on a lot of important issues that confront thals. Lisa would've loved your approach. No matter how tough things were and no matter how much pain she had, Lisa would always crack a joke.  :biggrin
Andy

All we are saying is give thals a chance.

Hi Red,

That was really Different

I really liked it as I'm also a slow go'er and like to do it really slow with total control (and probably hold my breath throughout the process :biggrin )

Awesome!! So looking forward to your videos...
After more than 20 years of Desferal, you would think that I'd be an expert... still freeze sometimes when the needle reaches my skin. Then I would tense up and it would hurt like crazy....
Would like to see how you do it with the video.

Hello,

In my last analysis it was 1400 but before Exjade it reached the 6000. It was awful, I had the desferal regularly but it couldn't make my ferritine to go down. I'm taking Exjade since August 2007 and now I'm always between 900 and 1800 (they analyse the ferritine each time I have a blood transfusion).

Do you have any special diet with less iron? I'm asking for one but my doctor says that is not what makes my ferritin go up and down.

Thanks.
The most important thing in life is not what you achieve but the fact of fighting for it.

Hi Laura,

Your doctor is probably right as the iron in diet is insignificant compared to the iron that you get from your blood transfusions.

With proper chelation you can eat anything in moderate amounts once in a while. Just don't get into the habit of eating iron rich diet too frequently.

I was on two different chelation therapy but now I'm into Desferal only. Using the needles Andy gave to me and my old good pump....... I do hope it went down coz I don't want to develop any complications.  :wink

My ferritine is around 2400 at the moment.....it's going up because I started with Exjade a month ago.....

For a diet with less iron. The Iron Disorder Institute has published a book called Cook(ing) with less iron: http://www.irondisorders.org/Store/

You can also find their books on amazon. I'm trying to order one of their books at the moment. My father has an unidentify (spelling) type of hemochromatose. I dont know how it is with thal, but pk-deficiency patients also takes too much iron of their food. We got
primary and secundary hemochromatose.

p.s. I am sorry for my English at the moment :$
