Unabsorbed Iron...
« on: November 13, 2008, 04:31:15 PM »
Hi,

Usually we drink tea with meals to inhibit the absorption of iron in the food. Where does this unabsobed iron goes and how does it leave the body, with what does it bind in order to leave the body??????????

Thanks

Manal,

I am not sure, but my guess would be that the iron is not removed from the food and that it leaves the body through the digestive tract.  I don't think that it leaves as oxidative, free iron so in my opinion it does not need to bind anything - it is simply not aborbed by the body.

In fact some people have conditions in which they cannot absorb iron and it leaves their body unabsorbed.

This is just a thought, it may require further resesarch,

Yes, the iron absorption is inhibited by certain foods, so it is never absorbed and doesn't need to be removed.

All we are saying is give thals a chance.
