What hemaglobin can thal intermedia's typically function at, and what hemoglobiin is good for them to maintain?  What happens if you get transfused less than or more than this threshold ... and which is better?

Also, is it true that thal majors will just keep on dropping their hemoglobin if they are not transfused, or can they maintain a low level (like 6.5-7.0) on their own?

I don't think thal majors could go on without transfusion.
i myself is an intermedia, i guess i've been used to live with 6.5-7.0 hb level. It is actually better to maintain the hb at least 9.0-10.0 (i guess our whole body organ will work a little less harder than in a low level hb).  :dunno but still, as far as i can maintain my hb 6.5-7.0 i prefer not to transfuse.  :biggrin

Hi Delvy, :wave

Thal majors can not maintain their hb with out transfusion, that's why they are diagnosed in the early months of their lives,,and i know that intermedias normally usually sustain hb of 6 to 7 , my daughter's hb was 6 when she was diagnosed at age of three, three years without transfusion,, and doctors here called her thal major :madno,,anyways i think it's good to maintain your hb in 10-11 range, so there all your organs will work a bit more normally, and their won't be any bone deformation, plus keeping low hb makes you subject to more iron absorbtion by gut.

Love to you all. :hugfriend
