Hi, I am newly active in this forum, I think I register myself few years back when I first diagnosed with alpha thalassemia minor and shockingly my wife is beta thalassemia minor. Our child is now 6 years old, has not been tested yet, still looking for doctors with knowledge on thalassemia in Malaysia or Qatar, where I am currently working.
The reason that brought me back to this forum, as I was looking for solution to my non improvement in my marathon training, I found that, thal minor do have impact on the body. I can hardly run few minutes without slowing down. It was really demotivating considering that I have been training for like 6 months without much improvement, not sure if it’s because of the mind or the body.

I started to take Folic Acid since I read thread in this forum.
for a start, in the morning, i will take magnesium 500mg + folic acid + Vitamin D3
during the course of the day, i will take l-carnithine or l-arginine in between meal.
just started a week ago, have no chance to test my endurance yet

If you have any leg pain or restless legs while trying to sleep, take the magnesium before bed at night.

should i take the magnesium with calcium ?
-
You can take calcium, as well, but the need is dependent on diet. If you have good dietary sources of calcium, like green leafy vegetables, you may not need added calcium. I do not take calcium, at all, but I do take magnesium, as it is much harder to get sufficient amounts from diet than it is with calcium.
