Hello, my darlings!
« on: July 01, 2007, 11:24:11 PM »
I miss you guys.  I had been dealing with all sorts of stuff, and then went to Florida with some family and friends to get away for a while.  Now I'm back to dealing with junk.  As my luck would have it, the very first night in Florida, I slipped and fell into a shallow pool, tearing ligaments in my ankle.  So, I ended up in the ER in Florida.  :(

It's ok, though.  I wasn't going to let that ruin my (or anyone else's) time, so I rented a little scooter to get around on, and we still had lots of fun.  :biggrin

I had the last few tests done for my stomach, and the surgeon is going to tell me on Thursday what my options are.  So far, I was told that they may keep my colon in tact, but they need to fix the hernia and prolapse.  They also need to do something with the muscle in there, but I don't exactly know what yet.   :dunno

Anyway, you will start seeing more of me in the next week.  I apologize to you all for not being around.  I'm hoping that things start to get better in the next week or two.  Once I get some answers, I'll feel a lot better.

I hope you are all doing well.  I think about you guys all the time.   :wub

I'll end this post with a silly picture of me and a bird, in Florida, on my jazzy little scooter.   :rotfl

Hi Danielle!!

I am so glad to hear they think they might be able to keep the colon intact! Woohoo! I'm also very happy to hear that you had a good time in Florida, and didn't let your ankle bother you. You look GREAT in that "silly" picture, silly! ;)

Danielle! So good to hear from you. I'm glad you have gotten some advice concerning your surgery that is a little easier to live with. You look great on your scooter with your red friend. I am so glad you went to Florida to relax after all the intense things you were dealing with. You're a fighter with lots of spirit! Take care, love, Jean

Aysam:
Thalassemia is no longer the death sentence that it once was.  Your son will need care, good care.  But if he is taken care of, he will lead a very normal, healthy life.  We are very fortunate to live in a day where there is much research devoted to Thalassemia.
We have adopted a daughter with Thal major and although we worry about her, we know that with proper treatment, she will be ok.
Hang in there.  Get him treatments.  It will be ok.
Blessings,
Rebecca

Hi Aysam,

You live in Australia and care for thals is actually quite good there. We have members from your area who are doing quite well, so please be assured your child will be in good hands as long as medical treatment is regular and sufficient. Smurfette is in your area and she does remarkably well. She is in her late 30's and has very low ferritin and leads a pretty normal life. She is a great example of what to expect if you have good treatment and comply with it.

Please do not feel guilty about having your child. It is time to be positive about his future. You can make a big difference in your child's life as long as you hold your head up and stay positive. We're here to offer strength and support and answers. Lean on us.  :wink
Andy

All we are saying is give thals a chance.
