Hi,

I wanted to ask something (as usual  :wink), TSH or Thyroid Stimulating Harmo,is this test enough to know that a person's thyroid glands are working alright?

Yes, the TSH test will tell if the thyroid is functioning normally. A high reading means the thyroid is under active. More TSH is produced to try to stimulate the thyroid so the level will be high. In an over active thyroid, the TSH level will be below normal.

Zaini,

I hope you are feeling better. Some of the worst times in dealing with health problems is when you don't know what they are, and doctors can't figure it out. Hang in there and I hope you find out what is causing your problems. Best wishes to you, Jean

Thanx Andy and Jean,

One of my biggest problems is weight gain,i am going for walk daily and watching my diet, still i don't loose weight, when my polysistic ovaries were detected i lost 5 kg after starting the medication, according to doctor high insulin level can be one of the reasons of weight gain, but now i am thinking about taking Reductil,a weight loss med,and i read it on the internet that before starting it you should check your thyroid levels,so i've done a test ,now let's see what are the results.

Thanx once again.

Hi Guys,

I got some tests done on 12th november and got the results today,i wanted to share them with you, first of all my hb was checked,it was 9.7 in september and now it has increased to 10.7,my doctor was asking me to take iron due to the low hb, but i wanted to get my ferritin checked before taking any iron, so my ferritin is 50.2 ng/ml,and lastly i  did a Serum TSH test,so my Serum TSH is 2.44 uIU/mL,now i need a lil bit of guidance here,i think my hb is slightly low, ferritin is normal, but i am unable to understand the readings of TSH, so i'll wait for your replies.

Zaini

The normal ferritn starts from 72 to 180 unless your lab has other reference range. Did they mention the reference in your tests?

Hi Manal ,

I am really confused, the ranges you provided are totally different from the ranges provided on my lab reports,it's written here F: 6-159 I s that wrong, according to these ranges i assumed that my ferritin is normal.Andy, plz can you tell me anything about the thyroid readings?
