Umair, Zaini, Sharmin, CF, & Manal,
 :ty

Zaini & Manal, you guys really got the kick out of the rishta joke   :rotfl
It doesn't sound as good in English... only desis can REALLY get the kick out of it  :wink

But no, seriously, right when I typed that, it came to my mind how wonderful it would be to have such a support system to provide assistance to thals to make this process easy for us. We really have no clue how to deal with this very important part of our lives and how to proceed in communicating what we have, when we meet someone special.  :smiley

Why do we tend to feel kinda guilty when we really don't have anything really wrong with us? I mean most of us can bear children and have a normal family just like everyone else, then, why people feel very different when it comes to our marriage..  I haven't had any direct experience, but desi's (ppl of Indian Subcontinent decent) especially seem to be less open about this. I know a couple of white thal couples (thal with non-thal), and a phillipino couple doing just fine. I don't know how it is in Pakistan.. Any thal married in Pakistan? I'm NOT trying to make anyone sad, but it REALLY is an important topic that should be discussed and worked on more and more as thals are living a much longer/normal lifespan now.

You are right  :wink.

You don't have to feel guilty about anything, what ever you have was given to you by Allah and Allah knows better then human beings.
I don't personally know anyone, but once a doctor in Agakhan told us that he has a male patient who is married and is a father of a son now,and once i went to my ob/gyn,she told me she knows a girl who just had twin babies :)  so i am sure your Prince Charming is hiding out there some where  :wink  :hugfriend.

Hi Everyone
I am back here after months.. dont know what kept me away...but it feels great to be here..
What I would  say after reading the posts is that, each one of you is capable of doing anything in life, what you may choose to do. Thalassaemia cannot stop you. You just need to be positive at all points of time.
There are such excellent drugs and transfusion facilities coming up with each day..so there is no need to despair!!
Imagine some of the older Thalassaemics, say 30/35 years back... what a tough childhood they must have had!!
My daughter, as you must have remembered is now 32 years old.. she is an MBA in finace from India, and a Masters in Applied Economics from University of North Carolina, now working as Associate Director in a Health Economics consulting firm in the USA... she still transfusion at regular intervals, is married and soon she is going to become a mother ansd she is in perfect health.
Please know, when you have adequate transfusions and using a good chealator, then you dont have Thalassaemiai!!
And it is not only she.. i know many more adults thalassaemics doing very well with their lives!!
Let nothing stop you!!!

Shikha,

That is wonderful news. I hope all goes well with your daughter.

Thals are marrying everywhere, even if it is uncommon in some countries. Poirot just recently posted pics of his beautiful daughters in our gallery. Waqas, who lives in UK was married in Pakistan over a year ago. It is happening even if there is a long way to go. Maako and Akka from Maldives are also married and the Maldives was one of the most conservative nations. Things do change and certainly we can help with this by spreading awareness of the possibility for a normal life for thals.
Andy

All we are saying is give thals a chance.
